1962 J & S Hunter

No, not Stacey's blue one. Remember when Geoff Bott brought this one over for the Classic Adelaide?
Well, it's for sale on eBay, at least it was - it looks like a deposit has been taken.
Here's the description:-

1962 J&S Hunter 179 Coupe, chassis PRH/005 was built 1962 by Ian Hindmarsh.  Extensively documented and photographed in road tests of the day including a test by David McKay.  12 cars were made.
Raced during 1962 to 1966 at: Warwick Farm,  Oran Park, Mount Panorama & Mallala.  Set class records in hillclimbs in NSW including Forty Bends, Dapto & Silverdale, plus sprints at Castlereagh drag strip.  Originally fitted with a Holden “Grey” motor, PRH/005 was one of the first sports cars fitted with a Holden “Red” motor in 1965 and raced at Warwick Farm with this motor.
It was featured in “Australian Hot Rod”, “Great Australian Sports Cars & Specials”, “The Racing History of Holden”.  Additionally many period racing photos were taken of this car.
In 1990, the current owner purchased the car, restored and raced it at Philip Island, Eastern Creek, Lakeside and Wakefield Park in historic racing, winning class awards.  Also ran in GEAR events, the Grand Prix Rally, Repco Mountain Rally, the Classic Adelaide and various club events and rallies.  Capable of 135 mph (215 km/hr) in current form
  • Specification Engine: Holden 179 engine built by (Wayne) Smith Engine Research with proven 250 BHP and 220 ft/lbs torque on unleaded petrol, roller rockers, steel crank, triple 2” SU carbs, electric water pump.
  • Gearbox: MGA close ratio with straight cut gears by John Needham
  • Clutch: Twin plate carbon fibre
  • Front axle: Holden wishbone, sway bar. Hunter & Delbridge period disc brake conversion
  • Rear axle: Holden fitted with Detroit locker LSD with 3 links, finned steel drums.
  • Adjustable dampers on front, adjustable coil overs on rear.
  • Large alloy radiator
  • Oil cooler
  • Power brakes
  • Removable steel full roll cage.
  • Leather road seats & Nardi Wheel.
  • Four point harness
  • Gross weight 920 kg .
Logbooked as Group M Sports, usually runs as invited Group SB sports in historic racing.
Ready to race and offered with many spares including: complete spare body shell, doors & new bonnet, 179 engine, assorted gearbox components, steering wheels, two sets of 15” “minilite” wheels, race tyres, road tyres, 14” alloy wheels, & 13” steel wheels plus a mountain of documents, photos and magazine articles - $39,500.
This is very fast, well developed car with only 1000 km on the fresh engine.

It left South Australia many years ago but I still have some photos of it with the SA number plates. Geoff was a South Aussie too if I remember rightly, living in the Adelaide hills. However, both the car and Geoff made their way to Sydney separately.
