I'm not really in the habit of looking at the cars outside the church when there's a funeral in Kapunda but it was a bit hard not to notice this lovely old Nash today.
Probably a 1948 model but from 1946 to 1948 it was (to me anyway) hard to tell the year, even though there were distinct 1946, 1947 and 1948 models. The differences must be miniscule. 1948 was the year Charles Nash died and maybe that was the trigger to let the stylists have their head at last because 1949 was the year of the very first monocoque bodied Nash and it was quite unusual with the front wheels covered as well as the back ones - the Nash Airflyte. For a number of years the Nash Healey was the only Nash with normal uncovered front wheels. The Nash Healey, by the way, was a true American sports car and pre-dated the Corvette by a few years.
That AA of SA badge attached to the numberplate predates the car itself by quite a long while. Those pull down door handles were on just about every large American-style car in the late 40s and I notice that after years of use the driver's door handle always gets a bit of brewer's droop. I once had a 1948 Chev with the same affliction. It doesn't stop them working perfectly though. I love the sound they make when they clunk shut.
