1964 Pontiac Banshee coupe

Ever heard of the Banshee? It was developed by John DeLorean "to compete head-on with the Ford Mustang". However, like lots of nice GM ideas, it was halted by executives, this time because it might be "a serious threat to the success of the Corvette". So there's only 2 Banshees in existence, a roadster and this smart looking coupe which has only done 1500 miles in its entire life. It's coming up for auction next month at RM car specialists, Ontario, Canada. Why it caught my eye was that it makes me think of the Holden GTR-X every time I look at it. It even has a straight 6 under the bonnet.

That's a good looking car! But the probably were right being afraid it could compete head to head with the Corvette ....

And what was Holden's excuse for culling the GTR-X? Releasing 1000's of customers to freely buy a 240Z without guilt? Crazy.

`Holden's excuse? They didn't have an excuse. Detroit made the decision.

Maybe the excuse was the same as for the Banshee? After all, the GTR-X did receive an enormous amount of press in the US, featured in most major motoring magazines, who'd ever heard of an Australian car then???
