Glen Ewin Revival Display January 26, 2020
Do you own a 1920’s to 1960’s vintage or classic car?
We are partnering with the Vintage Sports Car Club of SA of SA and Glen Ewin Estate to bring you a static display with tribute to the Glen Ewin Hillclimb as part of the Crush Festival in the Adelaide hills.
Glen Ewin Estate is famous for the scenic gardens, figs and stunning heritage buildings. It also hosted the South Australian Hillclimb Championships from 1946-1951. Shortly after the war a keen group of enthusiasts from the Vintage Sports Car Club of SA set up a hillclimb at Glen Ewin, out of Houghton in the Adelaide Hills. This was a run up the steep driveway at the estate and out onto the Lower Hermitage Road and was commonly known as the “Jam Factory” hill climb, because of the produce made there – sauces, jams and preserved fruits. The track was used from 1948 to 1951, when an Act of Parliament banned all further motor competition on public roads.
The famous track remains in tact in its entirety to this day!
This display is the first step in getting a full Glen Ewin Revival Hillclimb event happening with cars using the full track!
Vintage and Classic car enthusiasts are encouraged to register their interest on Eventbrite below! Tickets are free to display your car!
When I was a little kid my dad took me to the very last Glen Ewin hillclimb. I can still remember a very potent Vauxhall 30/98. I also remember the policeman that stopped traffic during each run as the cars popped out onto the main road near the end of the climb.
