Comparison.

One car is a DeTomaso and one is a Fiat.

Now this is no coincidence. Apparently De Tomaso was at the Bertone design studio and saw the X1/9 drawings and said can you whip one up for me? DeTomaso didn't go into production with their version but took delight in beating Fiat to the release of theirs.

Good old 69

That must be the most popular race car number ever. Everybody's guilty. I must admit that in my youth I went for that number and in the very early days of the SA Bolly club, whenever anyone started racing, that was their number of choice if it was available.

Museums.

One of our members visited the Auburn Cord Museum yesterday and sent some photos, and not one of an Auburn, Cord or Deusenberg.

Anyway, in the "glass" section were an early "Blue Flame 6" powered Corvette.....

....and an iconic Studebaker Avanti.

I'm sure Immanuel and Amanda have visited that museum, with their examples of Auburn and Cord tucked away in the back shed. They even named their daughter Auburn and their son Cord.

On the outside they look like the originals….on the inside there are improvements to allow for rocker clearance and bigger valve springs…. and the retaining stud holes are reinforced to prevent cracking. And… just to make them a little unique…every rocker cover will be numbered (number one is not for sale-I’m keeping it!).

For South Aussies it was flag duties at Mallala and there were enough members on hand to adequately "man" flag position no.7. Here's Roger's 7 lined up with the MX5s for a spin around the track during the lunch break.

Talking of Roger, his article in the September 2017 edition of Slipstream SA on the finding and restoration of the above Mk.7 was excellent. I would encourage others to provide Beven with similar articles on their cars as well.

Meanwhile....over in NSW an AGM occurred. An AGM with a difference as it was held in John's storage warehouse. Rob Luck called it "Secret Men's Business" with good reason as there wasn't a lady in sight.

Must be a heavy bonnet, just looking at the size of the bonnet prop, and with all of the advice, the Ikara back window still didn't get in.
