What are the limits to a Falcon ute?

The other weekend Andrew and I went down to Barry's to pick up some secondhand bricks. We loaded up the trailer until it groaned and then started to fill the ute, only stopping when the mudflaps touched the ground. The roadworks on the Sturt Highway were a bit testing, it didn't really want to accelerate up to the speed limits after they made you slow down. Going past the tractor pull at Gawler Belt was done at about 70ks but all in all, once again it did everything I asked.I don't think I'll ever find its limitations. It's a good old ute.

The Bulldog

Don't think it's British because of the name. Then again Mack trucks aren't British either. Anyway, this is our local community's restored Bulldog tractor and it's just got a pair of brand new back tyres ready to drive it down to the Farm Fair next month.These things are earth shattering every time their massive single cylinder fires.

It hasn't left America yet. It's still snowing over there and they didn't want to bring it out in the snow.

I always have fond memories of the old Citroen Light 15 I had ever so long ago. They were revived yesterday when I saw this photo of the gear lever coming out of the dash.

450SLC

Mercedes SLs have always been well proportioned attractive sports cars in my opinion but the SLC never did look right with its fixed roof and extended wheelbase. Well, those are my thoughts anyway.

But let someone like AMG get hold of one and turn it into a racecar and things change, don't you think?

Another DeTomaso spider

Following the post on the Pantera roadster, Peter G (who is currently driving to SA) sent these 2 photos of a Mangusta spyder. Interesting cars in the background too. Can anyone explain the reason for the bonnet scoop?

And while on the subject of DeTomasos, this rather pristine Pantera is set to take up residence in Australia in the hands of a Bolwell club committee member.

A very early Z

Among the collection of Dattos at Peter Lehmann's was this very nice refurbished early 240Z. Attention to detail included fitting (refitting) a pair of those mudguard mirrors favoured by the Japanese. I think they were removed by the dealers in Australia prior to sale, replacing them with door mirrors. There are so many Zs getting around (Jane's included) with XY Falcon mirrors.

One of the ways of telling a really early one, apart from the low chassis number, is the placement of the extractor vents in the tailgate below the back window. The vents were soon moved to the side, roughly where this one has a 240Z badge.

That's Jane's white one across the paddock after the majority of Bolwells had departed. This car is such an early one that it arrived in Australia before the Datsun dealers were set up to market them. It is pre compliance plate and pre chassis plate and came into the country via New Guinea.

On the way home we stopped to check on this year's Merlot grapes which are looking pretty good.
