Borgward powered Goggo

I mentioned this hot little Goggomobil in my post on the Hunter when both of them competed at Castlereigh in 1964. A month later the Goggo was back.
Bruce Leer was back too, this time in the Milano.
Like the Goggo, this particular Milano GT was road registered.
Here's the Goggo once more getting the jump on the hemi Plymouth.
Colin, I've been searching for the SCW article on this little sleeper. It wasn't in any of the 1965 editions anyway.

Ha! Marius just emailed me to tell me that it's SCW Sept. 1963.

I want it!

The power plant is actually from a Hansa 1100. Hansa, of course, along with Goliath and Lloyd, is part of the Borgward family.

Can you imagine what a sleeper this little coupe was in 1963/4 running mid to high 15 second 1/4 miles!
Your blog is simply amazing JL to be able to dig this stuff out. I was 12 when I bought the SCW it was featured in.

Be great to know who built it and what happened to it.

HI Iwas in the goggo club then owned a dart. The coupe was built by a mechanic whose daily work was ferrari and maserati on parramatta rd.The hansa engine was watercooled flat 4 ohc 1100 with forced induction from aicraft cabin blower. The engine was mounted in front of the rear axle inside the cabin and covered with a carpeted box, this left the rear engine hatch as a boot.Brakes may have been aproblem.SCW did atest against a Etype, from memory accel was about the same to 90mph.This car was road registered. At the same time there was another goggo coupe that had a mini mounted front and rear 4wd.This car still exists in WA.
I would love to reread that SCW test if anyone can link me.

I also remember the Goggo Borgward. In the late 60's it was owned by friends of mine , Sue and John May. They lived in Rose Bay North in Sydney and Sue drove the car to work every day. I moved away and lost contact with them but the car was definitely registered in NSW up to 1970.
