Mystery solved (maybe)

Remember Nagari number B8/82 supposedly given to both Dave Jackson's coupe and Bernie Van Elsen's sports? Well, the plate that came originally on Bernie's car (and it's still on it) carries the number B8/86. Accoding to factory records, there was no B8/86. Well this is why. The funny part is that the blank line at number 86 on Bolwell's list was common knowledge and there was more than one pirate that stamped 86 on their car.

Remember the car we talked about some time back that was built using Bernie's original chassis and a genuine sports body purchased from the factory? An approach was made to Campbell to give it a number and his solution was to give it no.86 because that number was never used. What he has done, intentionally or otherwise, was to give no.86 to what already was no.86.

Some time back it was suggested that the change from Cortina blinkers to MGB blinkers occurred between no.81 and no.82. This was based on no.81 leaving the factory with the Cortina examples and Bernie's car having the MGB type. But if Bernie's car is no.86 then the above statement may or may not be the case. I don't know what the real no.82 was fitted with but I do know that the red coupe no.83 had the MGB ones so that narrows it down a bit.

Last night I personally viewed the plate on Bernie's car. It most certainly is and has always been, no.86. Jim White was with me and can verify this as well. That puts to bed this funny little mix-up once and for all.

Paul E, the present owner of No.82, has verified that his car definately has the MGB lights. So nothing's changed, the changeover point is still between 81 and 82.
