Lovely livery.
Looking very smart, this photo was taken by Ian Smith in his studio. I was in a position to follow Barry's racing at close hand yet I've never seen the car race looking like that. My guess is that the Swann Switches sponsorship came at about the same time that CAMS ruthlessly pulled the pin on the Australian Sports Car Championship for Group D production sports cars.

This is a Mini Marcos.
Designed and marketed by Jem Marsh and Frank Costin (Marcos Sports Cars.)
This is a Mini Jem.
Which is a development of the Mini Dart.
Believe it or not, the Mini Jem had nothing to do with Jem Marsh.Friday, August 28, 2020

Run to Strathalbyn.
The other weekend we had a hectic day in Strath. And very enjoyable it was. A dozen or so met at the Bridgewater pub for the run - 5 Bollies, a couple of clubbies and one or two others including Nav's V10 Audi.
The fog and rain soon went away as we traveled through Meadows etc to our destination. First stop was at Ben Finnis' Collectible Classics.
Lots to see here so we filled in the balance of the morning before traveling to the Robin Hood Hotel for a very enjoyable lunch where we were joined by Alan and Jun.
The afternoon then was spent at the motor museum in the old Gilbert Motors Holden dealership. A great collection of vehicles and memorabilia including my favourite, the 1928 Buick Master 6 roadster sold new to a local lady by Gilbert Motors and bought back by the company many years later.

Chev crate engines
GM has recently announced that the original Gen-1 small-block 350ci Chevy V8 will once again re-enter production as a service replacement engine, at their Springfield Missouri plant.
Debuting in 1967 under the bonnet of the Chevrolet Camaro (as an optional high-performance engine), the versatile V8 quickly spread through all facets of the GM portfolio (even so far as Australian shores).
53 years after its release, the ‘all-new’ (in construction, not design) small-block is intended to service Chevrolet’s long-running trucks, vans and SUVs from the late-80s to the 2000s. They will be released in three variants: the Gen-1, the Gen-1e LD, and the Gen 1e-HD
The 2020 small-blocks also benefit from a new four-bolt main block which accepts a mechanical fuel pump and roller-camshaft ready as well an overall superior construction thanks to GM’s modern CNC-machining methods.
The new crate motor also includes a forged-steel crankshaft, harmonic balancer and new valve covers, oil pan and timing cover; and are covered by a three-year/100,000-mile warranty.
No word has come from GM regarding pricing or further specification details such as compression, camshaft profile or even power output – but the engine does appear already available to order on GM’s genuine parts website, and should be welcome news to Chevrolet restorers around the globe.

Change over.
The new Clubman of the Year is Garry Warren. Here's last year's Clubman of the Year, Dino Malone, handing over the Ken Stratton Memorial Trophy.
Back in Black.
You may or may not have noticed that there has been very little activity on this site for some time now. This is mainly because I've been getting over a broken neck and a few other injuries and that I haven't been able to get out to pick up my laptop that's been having an overhaul. This is me 2 or 3 months ago.
Anyway. all's well now and onwards and upwards.
