Mark 7 section.

A line up of Mark 7s at the Australian made display at Strathalbyn for Australia Day.
Yes, the MGBs were built in Sydney. Same with the Austin 7, they were assembled in a number of places.
But if you are looking for something really Dinkum Aussie, you can't go past a Tilbrook motorbike.
Sadly, there were no Leader trucks there.

Funny names for cars.

Forget the Nissan Cedric, how about the Daihatsu Naked.

Why the Gvang never ran.

Here's some information put together by "Quirky Cars" which I found interesting.

The Gvang was a lightweight orbital steam powered prototype produced by Gene Van Grecken in the early 70s
“At this time there was a growing international interest in low pollution power systems and the GVANG car was a designed as show piece vehicle to draw attention to steam power by initially breaking the 1906 steam land speed record without any advanced publicity. By 1972 the Sydney media had heard about the development and begged for the car to be displayed at the 1972 Sydney Motor Show as the feature exhibit. The vehicle was complete at that stage but the power plant had not been fully developed and was being run on a chassis dynamometer only. Steam development in Sydney was privately funded during the period 1968 to 1980. The demonstration car was designed for a top speed of 200mph for an LSR attempt, the normal road version was intended to have a detuned system and limited to about 118mph.”
There is a rumour I been unable to substantiate that the engine technology was purchased by the Shell oil company and that the chassis/body of the car still exists today, albeit without running gear.
Engine - Lightweight flash steam engine.
Power 300bhp
Torque unknown - but flat curve from rest.
Length 163.5 inches
width 65 inches
height 38 inches
wheelbase 113 inches
track 54 inches
weight 13.5 hundred weight
Wheels 9 inch
Tyres Firestone 10 - 15 -15 Indy High Speed.
Brakes- Girling 11 inch

Shell Co. protecting their interests. Wasn't it Ampol and GM that bought Pritchard's steam engine?

Frite.

Remember the Frite? A slant-6 powered Sprite. Here it is at Brooksfield......
.......but you were just as likely to see it at any local dragstrip, circuit race, sprint, rally or even at Krap Canal (Lanac Park). A very quick and versatile little car.

Love this car.

Ikara = meeting place.

Wilpena Pound, Flinders Ranges, South Australia. The name of the Pound, Wilpena, is reported to be Aboriginal, meaning "place of bent fingers"; this might either be a reference to the mountains resembling the shape of a gently cupped hand, or the freezing cold of the ranges in winter. The traditional owners, the Adnyamathanha, however, have no such word in their language. Their name for the Pound is Ikara which means "meeting place". It's not clear who named it: a somewhat discredited turn-of-the-century account has the surveyor B.H. Babbage naming it in 1856, but others says that the pastoralist George Marchant suggested the name while in the area in 1851, and the latter explanation is more likely.

What a fantastic shot by Peter Cardwell of the Pound from the air. So many people's favourite place. The ultimate hiding place for Captain Starlight's rustled cattle in the 1800s. No spotter planes then.

Chargers galore.

Most people have seen these photos.
But just to prove that they do actually move, here's another one.

Travelling to Perth.

Apparently the very last J&S ever built.
What a beauty. Certainly worth crossing the continent for.
This is for Ros. For Stacey and Ros, a world exclusive - no other couple on the entire planet with his and her Hunters.
The XU-1 dash.

A fitting farewell.

0 bids. Starting price $38,000.00
I recall, all those years ago when I was knocked back on my CAMS logbook application that I should have done what Ian Williams did and called it a "......... special". They missed the point. I was applying for recognition as a Marque (Prod) Sports (75 Mark 5s made) not Group A Sports like Ian's. It was too early for Historic.

We'll miss you Jon.

This is sad. Our mate and fellow Bolly driver Jon Gutte, as you probably know by now, lost his life on Saturday in a motorcycle race in Mt. Gambier. A gentle, quietly spoken, lovely man who loved his racing as he did his yellow Mk.7. Love to Lisa and the kiddies. We are all thinking of you.

Jon's funeral can't be for another week or ten days. Please keep an eye out for a message via Beven's grapevine when we know more.

Cute.

I wonder if they have to sleep sitting up.

Happy trails Alan.
