A long trip in a Zeta Sports.

Here's a few pages from the SCCSA's May 1966 edition of "Wheelspin". The 2 travellers, John and Ian (whose dad, Albert, owned the Zeta) and I were all "junior" members of the Sporting Car Club. Juniors were under 25 and we were given vastly lower membership fees to encourage younger people as even back then most were elderly blokes who's main activity was reminiscing about past glories (just like today).
Sometime after that Albert fitted a 1200 VW engine to help it up Collingrove a bit quicker.

Don't forget Mt. Alma is this weekend (both days) and it's the very last one.

Strewth!

Can I just say........

.........that this photo was taken at the very end of the day on the Sunday when at least 20 Bolwells had already gone home.

Favourite 3-wheelers No.41 - The Sunbeam Tiger.

4 x 4

Yes, there were 4 Mk.4s at the Island, well, 5 if you count this undressed one.
Anyway, here are the 4 others.

SR6 @ PI

I've been asked by a few, including John Harwood, how the Mk.6 fared at the Phillip Island historic event.
Well, on the Friday and Saturday it ran very strongly mid-field. That is until it succumbed to engine problems part way through Saturday where it was packed onto its trailer, joining its similarly stricken Bolwell stable-mates, not to be seen on the Sunday.

The Melmac

There have been quite a number of  Australian Specials based on Austin Healeys like the Mac Healey and even the Bolwell Mk.3. This one is the Melmac.
It was created by Mel McEwin in the 50s. Mel was a farmer in Casterton, Victoria when he was younger. He campaigned the car until he moved up to the next interesting car in his racing career and sold it to a friend and fellow Casterton farmer, Jim Kelly. Jim kept it in a shed for about 50 years, fully intending to do it up one day. That day never came and Jim died a few years back. Now the job has been taken on by one of Jim's sons so we may see it at historic meetings some time in the future.

Bolwell update 2

From Graham Nichols, the second update on the work on John Dickson's body - Sat. 23rd March.

So after the masking come the “all you need”…had a few issues with it, but sorted it out.

Then some colour around the doors and the inside of the bonnet….have to say that was the only fun part of today !!!!

Tomorrow morning (Sunday) I’ll go back to Smithfield and put the car back together and bring it back to Granville….then three rounds of sanding before heading back to Smithfield….so still a little way off but some progress has been made
The large bolt-in nose, incorporating the Nagari style opening, is more evident in this picture.

The factory 1970ish.

Some photos taken by Bruce Tonkin during one of his visits to purchase his Mk.7 kit.
