OMG

A RACECAR driver has been critically injured after ramming into a Lamborghini which failed to get off the starting grid during a classic cars competition at Phillip Island.
The 1970s Datsun, driven by veteran driver Peter Hall, of Lobethal, failed to avoid the stalled Lamborghini Giardo moments after the race began about midday yesterday.
The well-known motor mechanic and engine rebuilder, who is in his 70s, suffered a fractured pelvis, chest and neck injuries and went into cardiac arrest on the track.
He has decades of experience in the under two-litre category and has raced across the nation.
It was estimated by a spectator that the crash occurred as Mr Hall's Datsun reached up to 80 to 100kmh.
Mr Hall was flown by air ambulance to the Alfred Hospital in a critical condition.
His condition since has improved, with the hospital saying today he was serious but stable.
The events, organised by the Mini Car Club of Victoria, continued after the air ambulance transported him from the circuit.
