Veteran state-level competitor Peter Hall has succumbed to injuries sustained in a crash at the weekend’s Victorian State Championships at Phillip Island.
The South Australian’s Datsun 240Z collided with the rear of Ted Huglin’s stalled Lamborghini Gallardo at the start of a sportscar race on Sunday.
Following the crash, Hall was taken to the Phillip Island hostpital before being flown to Melbourne’s Alfred Hospital in a critical condition.
A CAMS statement on Wednesday afternoon described Hall’s death as “a massive loss for the sport”.
Peter and his wife Margaret were both honoured with Order of Australia Medals earlier this year for their services to motorsport.
Hall was a former chairman of CAMS’ South Australian State Council and had been an active competitor since the 1970s.

OMG

A RACECAR driver has been critically injured after ramming into a Lamborghini which failed to get off the starting grid during a classic cars competition at Phillip Island.
The 1970s Datsun, driven by veteran driver Peter Hall, of Lobethal, failed to avoid the stalled Lamborghini Giardo moments after the race began about midday yesterday.
The well-known motor mechanic and engine rebuilder, who is in his 70s, suffered a fractured pelvis, chest and neck injuries and went into cardiac arrest on the track.
He has decades of experience in the under two-litre category and has raced across the nation.
It was estimated by a spectator that the crash occurred as Mr Hall's Datsun reached up to 80 to 100kmh.
Mr Hall was flown by air ambulance to the Alfred Hospital in a critical condition.
His condition since has improved, with the hospital saying today he was serious but stable.
The events, organised by the Mini Car Club of Victoria, continued after the air ambulance transported him from the circuit.

Come & Try Day.

The 2 cars that competed.
3 more Bolwells in the car park.
John's 7 all one colour now and looking smart.
Ross's Nagari.
The original spare in Ross and Kathy's Nagari, still with its old Avon. They ended up needing it to get back to town.
Start line.

SCC Classic nights.

I know it was over a month ago that we visited the Sporting Car Club but just wanted to reflect on that for a minute.
Scott's talk which included a potted history of Bolwell, the club and Campbell himself was excellent. I felt very proud.
Meanwhile, I'm wondering how a man of the proportions seen below can believe that he can hide behind a post and not be seen.
Out the front was Dino's 7 sports.
And Roger's was in the carpark as well.
Daryl brought along some memorabilia including a nicely corroded Nagari mag which had to be unbolted from a post in his front yard because it was his hose reel but more importantly, some photos from his glory days including these.
Take a look at the photographers' stamp on the backs of these pictures.
Now that's old. it predates the Fullarton Road studio as well as Orange Lane.

Werribee House today.

Nicked from John Bowe who was down there doing a story for the upcoming Unique Cars mag.
In good company with John's E-type, an Aston, Porsche of course, A9X, Shelby Mustang etc. etc.

A few others that caught my eye (with reasons).

You don't see too many Brock Commodores this model any more and I like the scoop channeling air to the filter.
Big block in an LJ but I particularly became interested in the extractors.
Always been partial to a nice Charger.
Lots of work gone into this but can't help feeling a bit awful about chopping a rare panel van.
The Toyota Sera (Sera not Soarer) - intrieging.
When they said go and dump this Hillman I'm not sure they meant this way.
Big Ford business coupes like this are just too nice.
Very well built and impressive. Didn't believe the number plate though - AC1966.
Chrysler coupe - not many of these around especially in this condition. Rare as rocking horse teeth.
Gilbert Motors, been around for donkeys years.
Takes me back to the original Burger King on Anzac Highway.

No Bolwells though. Don't know where they got to.

Kapunda - week 70.

In Hill Street. This '56 Chev could very easily be an Australian assembled one. We only had one body configuration and this was it. However, the steering wheel was on the wrong side.

Barry's new wheels.

Should've used a flash. A very dark garage. Anyway, Barry's very pleased with them. They came from Bob Jane T-Mart. They're 15s. The tyres are 235s. Finding appropriate tyre sizes is getting more difficult by the day.

Turning Japanesa

Already joined the club.
At the Bathurst day today.

No, Graham, it wasn't me.

I'm not THAT reckless! Besides, my RR days are over for the time being.

Little ships.

I've just been reading this pictorial account of a couple of Canberra blokes who drove a Fiat Multipla from Australia to England in 1969. This is how the car travelled from Sri Lanka to India.
It reminds me of when Trish sent her Mark 7 over from Hobart. It came on a very small boat and when it arrived in Port Adelaide they slung it up onto the wharf in exactly the same manner. That's the 7 Brian Deckert now has.

Simply the best.

The very best Nagari sports IMHO.
Get well soon Jim.

Torana ute.

That'd do me!
And while we're at it......a Torana sports.

Kapunda - Week 69

Model T Fords spent a week in the Barossa.
There were 118 of them at Dutton Park.
Here's one outside the Sir John.
David Gibb's photo.

After 17 years in storage....

.....the Cociani coupe comes home this weekend.
I know that flat bed!
I wonder what this means.
