Hm, guy running in background, looks like paper caught on suspension, 2 wheels in air = normal for him. Ok what's the real story - you in the background?
ReplyDeleteFrom Peter S:-
ReplyDeleteFor some reason Norm Beechey drove it...set new record...and I seem to remember he broke the steering wheel on the car. And yes......I was there....at the end of the main straight.

our preferred spot was mound at Bosch corner at end of back straight
ReplyDeleteYes, It's Stormin' Norman (as opposed to Storeman Norm of the same period) getting stuck into it. According to Ray Bell, Beechey had blown up a couple of Nova engines and McKeown had to rush back to Melbourne as his father had died. "Beechey went on to win the SA Touring Car title with the car."
ReplyDeleteLater at Calder Jim and Norm swapped cars but this was arranged by Neptune as a publicty draw.
